Fair Use Disclaimer

"Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright." (17 U.S.C. § 107).

The reproduction on this website of a single cropped video still-frame photograph displaying the top plate and engraved manufacturer serial number of Leica M2 Serial No. 1144394 constitutes statutory Fair Use under 17 U.S.C. § 107:

1. Purpose and Character of Use: This non-commercial, transformative public-interest display is published strictly for public comment, news reporting, and law enforcement stolen-property verification regarding equipment actively logged as stolen in the Illinois Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) under New Lenox Police Department Reports 14-1898, 14-2159, 14-2406, and 15-0655.

2. Nature of the Depicted Material: The still frame documents purely factual, evidentiary physical markings—specifically manufacturer serial number M2-1144394 (originally paired in sequential series with Leitz 50mm Rigid Summicron f/2 Lens Serial No. 2181388).

3. Amount and Substantiality: Only a single static frame necessary to visually identify the engraved serial number is utilized.

4. Effect Upon the Potential Market: This non-commercial evidentiary identification use does not compete with, substitute for, or impair any legitimate market value of the source video.

All inquiries, recovery tips, or official communications regarding any equipment depicted or listed on this registry must be directed exclusively to the Investigating Agency:
